Product Sourcing & Research: Bolivia, Peru & Guatemala

A product sourcing trip refers to a journey taken by individuals or businesses to identify and procure products or materials directly from manufacturers, suppliers, or markets in different locations. The purpose of a product sourcing trip is to find suitable suppliers, research about the culture and where the product comes from, assess product quality, learn how the product is made and establish business relationships.

Here are some key aspects and activities involved in a product sourcing trip:

  1. Supplier identification

  2. Supplier meetings and workshop visits

  3. Sample evaluation

  4. Negotiations and agreements

  5. Logistics and shipping considerations

  6. Relationship building

  7. Learning about the culture

The research and sourcing trips I have taken for Andeana Hats have been unlike any other. Since we work with Artisan communities in the rural Andes Mountains of Peru and Bolivia, there is quite a bit of trekking and traveling involved with out work. These have been the following Research and Sourcing trips I have taken:

  • Southern Peru: Sicuani, Espinar, Wakrapukara

  • Cusco Region: Ollantaytambo, Lake Humantay, Inti Punku

  • Bolivia: La Paz, Salar de Uyuni

  • Guatemala: Lake Atitlan, Antigua, Acatenango, Chichicastenango
